HPC-High Performance Composite: Ever since the first use of carbon as a strengthening agent, late 1960s carbon is surrounded by an aura of substantives. Carbon is associated with terms like extremely stiff, professional material and the black gold. The characteristic black colour is the result of the heating of the polymer named polyacrylnitril. The fine treads visible are bundled parallel and even in this early stadium already are very strong and can carry heavy loads. By treating the bundles with carbon with an artificial resin, mostly epoxy resin, the fibres are connected and fixated. After drying and hardening the fibres get their Matrix coating to protect from harmful influences like chemicals and UV radiation. The spectrum of fibres ranges from extremely stiff to very compliant. The union of the fibres with epoxy resin embeds the features like stiffness and compliance in larger woven sheets of material. These sheets are woven together multi directional. Next the material is constructed to the needed shape and get a heat treatment. The technical advantage of carbon is the combination of rigidity and flexibility. This can only be reached by the exact mixture of fibres applied in the right direction and the correct execution of processes. To test the quality of our HPC frames we use the finite element technology. Running a computer simulation with a certain mixture of fibres and the forces projected by use we get a good impression of the frames capabilities.
FSS-Frame Save System: To protect our high-end aluminium frames these are built with the CUBE Frame Save System replaceable derailleur hanger. The tread is in the hanger itself and not in the frame, as usual. In case of a crash this hanger can be easily and quickly replaced with a new one.
Press Fit BB: With press-fit bearings, the outer bearing ring is pressed directly into the housing and not screwed-in as usual. With its wider housing the down tube and the rear forks can be joined full width. Because the width of the housing is a parameter in the calculated stiffness, every millimetre of additional width gives a significant improvement of the lateral stiffness, retaining the comfort-bringing resilience of the rear stays.
Advanced Twin Mould: Folds are prevented to curl up even during the baking session in a continuous control procedure. With this procedure, it is possible to increase the carbon content (and use less matrix resin). The result is similar stability at lower weight. Positive side-effect of this method: optically perfect layering.
